January is School Board Recognition Month and Derby Public Schools would like to thank the community leaders who serve as Board of Education members. At the December 13 Board meeting, Robin Folkerts and Justin Kippenberger were recognized for their service as this was their last regular Board meeting. Both have served the district through crucial times as we continue to navigate a pandemic, complete bond progress and much more. We appreciate their dedication and countless hours spent serving Derby Public Schools! Beginning at the January 10 meeting, Michael Blankenship, Pamela Doyle, Matthew Joyce, Jennifer Neel, Robyn Pearman, Tina Prunier and Andy Watkins will be the seven individuals serving our district as school board members.

School board members develop policies and make tough decisions that help shape the future of our education system. For Derby Public Schools, they bear responsibility and oversight for an annual budget of $105,461,408 million, 6,959 students, 1,240 employees and 18 facilities.

“We are very appreciative of the individuals who have served and will soon begin serving our community as school board members,” Heather Bohaty, Superintendent of Schools, said. “They serve as great advocates and are committed to providing quality education to meet the needs of our students, support our staff and make sound decisions that impact all community stakeholders.”

Derby Public Schools encourages the entire community to thank a school board member, not only this month but throughout the entire year.
