Congratulations to Derby High School students Quinn Meyer, Skyler Sprecker and Paige Davis (pictured left to right) on being named National Merit Finalists!

Students become National Merit Semifinalists by taking the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT) during their junior year and scoring in the top one-half of one percent in the state. Nationwide, about 16,000 students were named semifinalists. Students may then move to finalist status based on other requirements, such as academic skills, extracurricular accomplishments, and an essay. Finalists compete this spring for 2,500 National Merit Scholarships of $2,500. Scholarship winners will be announced in the spring.

“I am very happy for all three of our students,” Tim Hamblin, Derby High School Principal, said. “It is great to see their hard work acknowledged and rewarded in this way.”
