SUBSTITUTE TEACHING - LICENSES – TYPES AVAILABLE
Emergency Substitute – for individuals who have completed a minimum of 60 semester credit hours from a regionally accredited college or university.
First time substitutes licenses, are issued through the state of Kansas and expire June 30 of the current school year you apply in.   If this is your first emergency substitute license or you have not held an emergency substitute license since the 1999-2000 school year, you cannot apply online. Go to www.ksde.org, click on Teacher Licensure/ then scroll down to Emergency Substitute. There are two requirements; (1) Order fingerprint card/instructions and (2)Initial Emergency Substitute application – Form 8a.  
Renewal of your substitute license can be applied for online and only after June 15, for the following school year.   Renewed licenses are valid for two years.
To start the online application process, after June 15, go to www.ksde.org, then click on Teacher Licensure, then scroll to Emergency Substitute License, Form 8.
Standard Substitute – must hold a degree and have completed a teacher preparation program in order to qualify. Go to www.ksde.org click on Teacher Licensure then scroll to Standard Substitute.
 
Certified Substitute – for individuals who have their teaching license.

APPLYING TO SUBSTITUTE TEACH AT DERBY PUBLIC SCHOOLS
USD 260 is accepting applications for "Teacher Substitutes" ONLY from individuals that have a (1) current KS Certified Teaching License or (2) current KS Initial Teaching License.
Please make reservations for the substitute training class by calling 316/788-8400 or by email credford@usd260.com.

The following must be completed prior to substituting :
In addition to printing the forms online, application packets may be picked up at the Administrative Center, 120 E. Washington, Derby.   316/788-8400. Office hours are Mon.-Fri., 8:00am-4:30pm
When all of the requirements listed above are complete, with the exception of *, they can be mailed or dropped off at the Administrative Center, 120 E. Washington, Derby, KS   67037. 

JOB ASSIGNMENTS
Derby Public Schools utilizes Aesop, an automated system which allows the substitute to accept or decline assignments. Training session attendance is REQUIRED before an individual is eligible to substitute teach.
Training Sessions: Call 316-788-8400 for reservations to attend a Training Class
Where:   Administrative Center - 120 E. Washington
When:    10:30-11:30am   Monthly
               *Second Thursday of the month (*subject to change)
What:     Meetings will include (1)Training on the automated system and (2)View a
                15 minute Bloodborne Pathogen Video and take a quiz over its content.

RATE OF PAY FOR ALL TEACHER SUBSTITUTES
Full Day $90     Half Day $45      
Long Term Substitute – Full Day $150

      (*Requires viewing the Confidentiality Video, prior to substituting. Call 788-8400 for scheduled video times.)
Parents as Teachers

Requirements – Must be 18 years of age and a High School Graduate.
Complete the following:
2.      Consumer Backgroud Check (complete form and submit to substitute coordinator)
3.      W-4
4.      I-9
5.      K-4 
6.      Preference Sheet
7.      Drivers License and Social Security Card (bring orginal to be copied)

JOB ASSIGNMENTS
Substitute paras are called on as a  “as needed basis”. The school para or other school personnel will call to schedule assignments. The greater the number of schools you are willing to substitute at, the greater the chance you will be called.
RATE OF PAY FOR ALL SUBSTITUTE PARAS
$7.80 per hour
