100 Years: A Century of Making a Difference
The first graduating class from Derby High School had just two students in 1911, which means this year’s senior class of 404 students carry a special honor. 2011 marks the 100th graduating class from Derby High School. Throughout the 2010-2011 school year we will host a variety of events, activities and projects to mark this historic event. To start off the celebration we are interested in a “logo” to symbolize, “100 Years: A Century of Making a Difference”. We are inviting our secondary students to design this logo through a Logo Design Contest! We are extending this opportunity to students in the Sixth Grade Center, Derby Middle School and High School. First place entry will receive $100.00 and have their logo used on items during this year-long celebration! Second runner-up will receive $50.00 and Third runner-up will receive $25.00, all graciously donated by Wichita Vending Company. Please see below for official contest rules and entry form.
We do need the community’s help in selecting the logo. Finalists will be put to a public vote on September 9th. Keep watching for more news and upcoming events to help celebrate, “A Century of Making a Difference”.

Derby Alerts
Stay informed better than ever with Derby Alerts: Immediate Response Information System.  This new technology, which replaces Textcaster, will give you more flexibility and quicker alerts for everything from music and athletic programs to emergency and weather updates.  When a parent/guardian enrolls a student in the district, they provide certain contact information.  The primary contact that is provided will be notified by the phone number or e-mail listed.  This system does have text messaging capabilities, however the primary contact would need to "self-enroll" in the feature by following the steps below:

To login, a contact goes to www.derbyschools.com, then to the "Parents & Students" menu item and clicks the "Derby Alerts System" link.  You will then be presented with a page asking for a username and password.  The e-mail the primary contact provided at enrollment is the username and to gain your password, you will need to go to "Click Here" link in the "Forgot username/password?" area below the login box.  You will be prompted to enter their e-mail address and their password will be e-mailed to them.
Please be sure to check your cell phone plan for any text message fees your wireless provider may charge.

Not a primary contact, but would like to sign up for Derby Alerts?
Subscription will run from date of sign up to June 30, 2011.  To sign up go to www.derbyschools.com, under "Parents & Students", there is a link called "Derby Alerts Sign-Up".  The annual fee of $5.00, will be received at any school or Administrative Center prior to the sign-up being processed.  Please allow up to 7 days to process a request, once annual fee/sign-up form is received.

District Advertising Opportunities
Own a business and looking for new and unique ways to advertise?  A school district policy has recently expanded the advertising opportunities in our community.  From banners at Panther stadium, to wall space and the outfield at the baseball diamond, advertising possibilities are almost endless.  With excellent community support, athletic and other events offer businesses the chance to reach many families who may need the offered product or service.
Guidelines must be followed so to find out more about restrictions as well as discuss which location(s) businesses would like to be featured, please contact 788-8400 or email cwilford@usd260.com.
Some prime spaces have already been sold, so if you are ready to pursue this advertising opportunity, simply click below to fill out the inquiry form and email it back to Mr. Craig Wilford.
Virtual Learning
Extend learning beyond the classroom this summer for your K-8 student. Derby Public Schools is pleased to announce the Virtual Learning EnvironmentClick here to find out how your child can access their school computer desktop from any internet browser, making it possible to utilize the learning programs and software available in their classroom.
High School Alumni Directory Underway
In an effort to better connect with Derby Public Schools alumni, our high school has contracted with Harris Connect to create an alumni directory.  This national publisher will be beginning efforts soon.  Should you, friends or family receive a postcard or phone call from Harris Connect, please note that this is a legitimate project.  Participation, however, is completely voluntary and at the discretion of alumni as to their inclusion in or purchase of the publication.
