January is School Board Recognition Month, and Derby Public Schools expresses appreciation to the following community leaders who volunteer countless hours to provide leadership for our public schools: Matt Hoag, Matthew Joyce, Justin Kippenberger, Jose Martinez, Mark May, Tina Prunier and Andy Watkins.

“Our Board of Education members are committed to fulfilling the mission of Derby Public Schools, which is creating a tomorrow that is better than today by ensuring all students continually grow and learn,” Heather Bohaty, Superintendent of Schools, said. “We are grateful for the countless hours they put in to make a difference for our schools and community.”

School board members in Derby Public Schools develop policies and make tough decisions that help shape the future of our education system. They bear responsibility and oversight for an annual budget of $79,710,024 million, 6,754 students, 1,129 employees and 12 school buildings.

“We are grateful to have this opportunity to formally say ‘thank you’ to each of them,” said Bohaty.

Derby Public Schools encourages the entire community to thank a school board member, not only this month but throughout the entire year.
